Condolences: Stephen Colbert and Demi Lovato

By: Gabriela Yareliz

Condolences go to Stephen Colbert because he lost his mother this past week, and to Demi Lovato, whose father just passed away. May they find the peace that only God gives and that the world cannot take away.

Stephen Colbert:

Lorna Colbert

It is so beautiful to hear the wonderful memories he has of his mother and their deep love toward one another. I loved his tribute to his mother on the show. It was probably the first time I saw my favorite comedian talking about things that were no laughing matter. This had no funny angle to it, but I saw him strengthened by his mother’s faith. He made sure we all knew–the show must go on.

Demi Lovato: I admire her strength as she deals with her estranged father’s death. A father who did not speak to her since 2007. Stay strong Demi. She is an artist whose pain from the relationship with her father has translated into her music and art. She is one of my favorite artists, and may God give her the strength to find more healing and remain unbroken.

Baby I just ran out of band-aids,
I don’t even know where to start;
‘Cause you can bandage the damage
You never really can fix a heart-Demi L.

Hello Everyone,
I hope this week will be an inspiring one. I hope each of us will take a duty to uplift others, and enjoy the beautiful summer ahead of us.

Let us look back and count our blessings. Let us dream big and change the world in our own way. Let us change perspective and wear other’s shoes. Let us take our blessings to bless others.

This photo is not mine, but it’s linked. I have a photo just like it. It was taken on E. 10th St. in New York. I love this little place where the Vespa matches the shutters. I guess I am not the only one who thought it was cute. 🙂

Steve Turner: Creed

By: Gabriela Yareliz

Steve Turner describes the greatest nation on earth.

Creed
by Steve Turner

We believe in Marx, Freud and Darwin
We believe everything is OK
as long as you don’t hurt anyone
to the best of your definition of “hurt”,
and to the best of your definition of “knowledge”.

We believe in sex before, during, and
after marriage.
We believe in the therapy of sin.
We believe that adultery is fun.
We believe that sodomy’s OK.
We believe that taboos are taboo.

We believe that everything’s getting better
despite evidence to the contrary.
The evidence must be investigated
And you can prove anything with evidence.

We believe there’s something in horoscopes,
UFO’s and bent spoons.
Jesus was a good man just like Buddha,
Mohammed, and ourselves.
He was a good moral teacher though we think
His good morals were very bad.

We believe that all religions are basically the same-
at least the one that we read was.
They all believe in love and goodness.
They only differ on matters of creation,
sin, heaven, hell, God, and salvation.

We believe that after death comes the Nothing
Because when you ask the dead what happens
they say nothing.
If death is not the end, if the dead have lied, then its
compulsory heaven for all excepting perhaps
Hitler, Stalin, and Genghis Kahn

We believe in Masters and Johnson
What’s selected is average.
What’s average is normal.
What’s normal is good.

We believe in total disarmament.
We believe there are direct links between warfare and
bloodshed.
Americans should beat their guns into tractors .
And the Russians would be sure to follow.

We believe that man is essentially good.
It’s only his behavior that lets him down.
This is the fault of society.
Society is the fault of conditions.
Conditions are the fault of society.

We believe that each man must find the truth that
is right for him.
Reality will adapt accordingly.
The universe will readjust.
History will alter.

We believe that there is no absolute truth
excepting the truth that there is no absolute truth.

We believe in the rejection of creeds,
And the flowering of individual thought.

Postscript:
If chance be the Father of all flesh,
disaster is his rainbow in the sky
and when you hear:

“State of Emergency!”

“Sniper Kills Ten!”

“Troops on Rampage!”

“Whites go Looting!”

“Bomb Blasts School!”

It is but the sound of man
worshipping his maker.

“If God is dead, somebody is going to have to take his place. It will be megalomania or erotomania, the drive for power or the drive for pleasure, the clenched fist or the phallus, Hitler or Hugh Hefner.” — Malcolm Muggeridge

Love without limits: Nick Vujicic and Kanae Miyahara

Nick Vujici has always been an inspiration. A young man without arms or legs who smiles and praises God puts me to shame when I complain in my worst moments.

God has used this young man in a powerful way. I have posts related to him (look at the Butterfly Circus), and I bought his book for my brother as a gift.

This post, however, is not about his extraordinary accomplishments of the past, but how God has blessed him recently. He married a gorgeous young woman in 2012, and now has a healthy, cutie-pie son.

His life is a shining light. A beacon of hope. Despite his circumstances, he placed himself in the hands of the one who does not fail, and he was immeasurably blessed.

Click here to watch a lovely video about his love story. It is soooo worth it, I promise.

If you are feeling down, look up one of his inspirational talks or TED talks. If you feel empty or in need of something, trust in God and know that He knows your needs. Through the lives around us, we can learn and see that the Lord is good to those who wait and trust in Him.

Strange exhaustion creeps on all of us in our shaded cubicles. The school keeps bothering us telling us we need to start the fall recruitment process for internships for next year.
Summer, doesn’t feel like summer yet. It better start soon because we are almost half way through it.
