This Month’s Picks: July 2015

By: Gabriela Yareliz

Goodbye July, and enter August. I typically think of August as a month of new beginnings (it’s the student in me). July was crazy intense. I was blessed to be able to go to the General Conference Session for the Global Seventh-day Adventist Church in San Antonio, Texas; I finished my bar review course and completed the month with the bar exam and intense, suffocating heat. I wanted to share some inspiration that I always find at @ChristineCaine and @PropelWomen. I love this ministry’s focus on women in leadership and Godly leadership (service). I hope you enjoy some of the inspiration that inspired me throughout this difficult month.

“The glory of the Christian life is that we have a hope that overwhelms grief. It doesn’t eradicate it. It sweetens it. It overwhelms it.”
Tim Keller

“I cannot remember the books I’ve read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Be with the people who never want to stop getting to know you. I don’t care who it is. It doesn’t even need to be romantically. Just be with people who make you know you are worth it.”
Katherine Henson

“It is not the strength of the body that counts, but the strength of the spirit.”
J.R.R. Tolkien

“Rare as is true love, true friendship is rarer.”
Jean de La Fontaine

“We tear ourselves apart, blaming God for the wounds left by our own hands. Yet, Christ comes to us in our anguish and shows us His scars, the scars that have sealed our future and the wounds that bind ours. In the depths of our despair and shame, Jesus comes bursting through, showing us that He takes us as we are and makes us into who we are meant to be. When we have laid down our pride, we take up a far greater hope, one that darkness can never touch, and one that death can never follow.”
T.B. LaBerge // Go Now

“If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.”
C. S. Lewis

“You were scared, but you still got here; don’t ever forget that.” T.B. LaBerge

“Women are a creative force. We are creative beings: our bodies are designed to give birth to creations, ideas, and beliefs — to bring things into fruition.”
Shine Blackhawk

“Waiting is just a gift of time in disguise — a time to pray wrapped up in a ribbon of patience — because is the Lord ever late?”
Ann Voskamp

“Our job is to love people. When it hurts. When it’s awkward. When it’s uncool and embarrassing. Our job is to stand together, to carry the burdens of one another and to meet each other in our questions.”
Jamie Tworkowksi

“We need women who are so strong they can be gentle, so educated they can be humble, so fierce they can be compassionate, so passionate they can be rational, and so disciplined they can be free.”
Kavita Ramdas, in her commencement speech to Mount Holyoke graduates
